This presentation will analyse the language ideologies in an English-language leisure space for primary-age children organised by a group of middle-class families in the Barcelona area. Unequal access to English underscores the agency and creativity of non-affluent families to mimic "immersive" options which are not always linguistically and economically possible. Outsourcing English to a mother who has adopted English as a family language has allowed these families to (re)produce the discourse of immersion as more efficient for English learning than formal instruction and put it into practice in a playful space of English communication based on ideologies of learning by doing and "natural" acquisition.
